SOC328 is the capstone subject for the Sociology Major. As such it brings all completing SOC Major students together into a final core subject group. It offers students the opportunity to draw on the sociological knowledge they have acquired throughout their major and bring it to the development of an applied sociological research project. It also encourages students to reflect on potential career paths and the role of sociology in the workplace and the broader world. The applied focus of the research project enables students to explore how their sociological knowledge and research have practical applications and provide possibilities for improving outcomes for different groups of people. The subject and the project enable students to identify and integrate recognised professional skills into their project. These include (as defined by The Australian Sociological Association): understanding social and cultural issues; high quality communication skills; research and detailed observation; and the ability to work independently.
